Overview
The LWES Art Docent Program is a nonprofit program that serves the 1000+ students who attend Lake Wilderness Elementary School. It was conceived to provide students with additional art education because the school budget does not support a full-time art teacher. The program is affiliated with Green River Community College's
Interurban Center for the Arts which provides training and artist information.
Why Volunteer?
Art Lessons: Starting in October, Art Docents present
a monthly lesson for a total of eight. Each lesson presents
an Art Master, and teaches students about an artwork, art
elements, and encourages interest, participation, and
enjoyment of art through a hands-on, age appropriate
project.
Art Display and Portfolio: Throughout the year, art is displayed in the classrooms and hallways to encourage art awareness and appreciation. At the end of the year, each student receives an art portfolio with their artwork to take home and share with their families.
Art Walk & Silent Auction:
At the end of each year, the LWES gym is transformed into an art gallery displaying works of art created by each student through the Art Docent Program. In addition, art docents guide students in collaboration to create a fabulous class artwork that is auctioned as a program fundraiser. Bidding on a wonderful piece of art helps to support your child’s art education and 100% of the proceeds go directly to the Art Docent Program for materials and project supplies.

If you like art and children, then you are a great candidate for becoming an Art Docent or Art Docent’s Assistant. You do not need an art background and will receive training for all necessary skills, and most supplies are provided by the Art Docent Program.
As a volunteer in the classroom, you share your art experience with the students and see their skills and creativity grow throughout the school year. Your child will benefit from your participation in the classroom!
